30th Annual STEAM Day in the Books
A Day for Career Exploration Emerges
In 1994, Saint Francis University students first talked about a way to share their enthusiasm for science and related fields with their high school peers. Those conversations evolved into what was then known as "Science Day," a time when high school students from across the region could come to campus for energizing, hands-on break-out sessions to explore a range of topics. Now, 30 years later, the event has grown into "STEAM Day" and embraces discovery in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics.
Celebrating 30 Years
The university hosted its 30th Annual STEAM Day on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, attended by 33 local high schools (furthest is Otto-Eldred from McKean County), 51 high school teachers, and record attendance of 481 high school students.
The annual event allows the high school student to attend presentations with university students and faculty, alumni, and professionals in a range of fields. Students are able to learn and explore aspects of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics (STEAM) in a campus setting, moving from one sessions to another each hour much like a professional conference setting, and enjoy lunch on campus. The event s sponsored by the School of STEAM at SFU.
