SFU’s Criminal Justice Program Named CJ Program of the Year by ACJS:
Recognizing Student Volunteerism and Dedication

The Saint Francis University (SFU) Criminal Justice (CJ) Program  has been awarded the 2023 CJ Program of the Year by the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences (ACJS) on March 18.

The ACJS is an international association established to foster professional and scholarly activities in the field of criminal justice. To promote CJ education and research, they hand out awards yearly.

The award recognizes the exceptional work and dedication of the SFU Criminal Justice Club and the CJ Program in fostering professional and scholarly activities in the field of criminal justice. The CJ club has been actively involved in events both on campus and in the community. “Bears for Cares,” K-9 Dog Demonstration, First Responder’s Day, and ALS Seminar in Policing were only a few of the activities mentioned by the ACJS.

The ACJS award focuses on all the voluntary works and programs that any CJ Program completes in a year. Dr. Mark Buckwalter, head of the Criminal Justice Club, is very proud of the hard work:

“The CJ Club students definitely embody the Franciscan Goals of compassion, having a heart for service, a generous attitude towards learning, and respect for the uniqueness of all individuals,” he stated. “The Club promotes unity, fairness, justice, and impartiality. Students recognize that they are agents of change and that we need individuals with diverse backgrounds to make our CJ system better for the future.”

Winning the ACJS National Award for 2023 CJ Program of the Year is a special opportunity for SFU to be recognized for its exceptional volunteer work and programs in criminal justice. This award has even motivated the CJ Club more to defend their trophy next year. Dr. Buckwalter and the CJ Club look forward to next year, finding new events to organize and hopefully keep changing lives the way they do.
