SFU's Rural Education Alliance for Leadership Institute Hosts National Expert
Raising the REAL Awareness: Collaborating for Capacity
Saint Francis University's Rural Education Alliance for Leadership (REAL) Institute invited Dr. Richard Ingersoll, a leading national expert on America’s elementary and secondary teaching force, to address a crowd more than 70 educational leaders on Nov. 16, 2023.
Dr. Ingersoll, Professor of Education and Psychology at the University of Pennsylvania, served as the keynote speaker at the REAL November Forum titled, Raising the REAL Awareness: Collaborating for Capacity. During the full day event participants from across our region delved into important topics impacting education, specifically interwoven with issues of poverty in rural areas. The event also featured a panel discussion involving representatives from the Milton Hershey School, an area Superintendent, the Executive Director of the Appalachia Intermediate Unit 8, and the Chair of ABCD Corporation.
The November Forum was held in the University's Curry Innovation Center in downtown Altoona, Pa.
About the Rural Education Alliance for Leadership Institute (REAL)
The Rural Education Alliance for Leadership ( REAL) Institute, is designed to help local communities and educational agencies come together in efforts to support the needs of rural schools. Through discussions, forums, and guest speakers school district teachers and members of the Institute gain working knowledge about the issues rural communities are facing and the resources necessary to take action. REAL is a partnership between SFU's Graduate Education Department and the Appalachia Intermediate Unit 8 .
