KEYS AND LATIMER JOIN RED FLASH MEN’S BASKETBALL TEAM FOR 2008-09 SEASON
LORETTO, Pa. (Sept. 25, 2008) – Saint Francis University head men’s basketball coach Don Friday announced on Wednesday the addition of two players to the 2008-09 Red Flash roster.
Joining the SFU men’s basketball team are freshman Curtis Keys (Reston, Va. / South Lakes) and junior transfer Cedric Latimer (Los Angeles, Calif. / Windward).
“We are very excited to have Curtis and Cedric join our Red Flash family,” said Friday, who is entering his first season in Loretto. “They are both terrific young talents who will help us in building this basketball program back to its rich tradition. We look forward to helping them grow as students, basketball players and human beings.”
Keys enters Saint Francis as a true freshman out of South Lakes High School, where he was a first team all-district and honorable mention all-region under head coach Darryll Branch. Keys will sit out the 2008-09 season to concentrate on academics, but will practice with the team throughout the season.
Latimer will sit out the 2008-09 season in compliance with NCAA transfer rules. He played the past two seasons at Santa Clara, which is in the basketball-rich West Coast Conference. Latimer, who is a 6-foot, 6-inch, 217-pound forward, played in 30 of the Broncos’ 31 games in 2007-08, averaging 10.1 minutes per game off the bench. He made 20-of-58 field goal attempts (.345), including 8-of-26 (.308) from outside the arc. At Windward High School, Latimer averaged 20.5 points and 9.5 rebounds, along with 1.5 blocks per game during his senior season. He was the Alpha League MVP in both his junior and senior seasons, as well as an All-CIF First Team honoree.
Latimer also played AAU basketball for the Compton Magic. Originally from Finland, where his father played professional basketball, Latimer was listed as one of the Top-10 small forwards on the west coast by several recruiting services. Prior to his arrival in Los Angeles, Latimer played on the Finnish U-18 National Team that finished fifth in the European championships. He averaged 10.5 points and 5.5 rebounds and scored 22 points against Iceland and 21 against the Netherlands.
