Flash Women’s Volleyball Squad Drops Contests Against Iowa and UC-Riverside

GREELEY, Colo. (Sept. 1, 2007) – The Saint Francis women’s volleyball team struggled on Day 2 of its trip to Northern Colorado as the Red Flash dropped a pair of 3-0 contests against Iowa and Cal-Riverside.

The Hawkeyes downed SFU 30-16, 30-24, 30-24 early in the day before the Red Flash fell victim to Cal-Riverside 30-19, 30-23, 30-25.

Saint Francis, which went 0-4 at the Northern Colorado tournament to start the season this weekend, will try to find its first win when it travels to participate in the University of Oakland Tournament next weekend. The Red Flash will face Toledo at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, before battling Oakland (Noon) and La Salle (5 p.m.) on Saturday.

Junior Kristin Buter (Bowie, Md. / Bowie) posted a team-high 10 kills, 3 service aces and 13.5 points against Iowa. Sophomore Shirley Miller (Fairless Hills, Pa. / Pennsbury) had 6 kills, and freshman Alexa Ebert (Titusville, Pa. / Titusville) had 17 assists.

Junior Keshia Gibbs (Dumfries, Va. / Forest Park) paced the Red Flash with 9.5 points in the contest against UC-Riverside. She had 9 kills and 1 block, while Buter added 6 kills and 2 aces. Freshman Rachel Capizzi (Saint Louis, Mo. / Mehlville) dished out 13 assists.
