SFU Field Hockey Surrenders Two Late Goals Loss Against LaSalle
LORETTO, Pa. (Sept. 23, 2007) – Junior Belen Albanes (Atlanta, Ga. / Dunwoody) scored her third goal of the season, but it wasn’t enough as the Saint Francis field hockey team dropped a 4-1 non-conference decision against La Salle on Sunday afternoon at DeGol Field.
Albanes’ goal came just 1 minute, 24 seconds into the second half to give the Red Flash life after falling behind 2-0 after the first half. However, the Explorers scored just over four minutes later and then tacked on an insurance goal at 48:12 to put the match out of reach at 4-1.
Albanes’ goal was her third of the season to give her seven points. She is now second on Saint Francis’ career points (20) and goals (9) lists.
The Red Flash, who fell to 0-8 on the year, will try to bounce back with a 7 p.m. contest against Fairfield on Friday night at DeGol Field. Sunday’s contest against the Explorers marked the first of five straight games at home for SFU.
Kara Harpel put La Salle on the board first with a goal off her own rebound at 10:08. Adrianna Lalli then made it 2-0 at 31:28 as La Salle began to put the game out of reach.
But the Red Flash responded after the intermission to cut the lead to 2-1 on Albanes’ goal, which came off a rebound from four yards out.
Maria Allegretto put home a Christy Miller pass from two yards out to give the Explorers a 3-1 lead at 40:57. Kelly Dougherty closed out the scoring off a pass from Haley Froshour.
