Kocin's First Place Score 76 Leads the Way for Saint Francis
Littlestown, Pa. / Quail Valley Golf Course – Reminiscent of their fifth NEC Conference Title in six years, the ladies of Saint Francis University sit atop of six other teams at the Mount Saint Mary’s Invitational by a commanding margin. An 8:30am shotgun start led to a fine team total of 315 after round one of competition.
Perhaps sophomore Lisa Kocin’s (Parma, Ohio / Padua Franciscan) 76 (39-37), the lowest score of round one, assisted in Saint Francis’ 19 stroke lead over Hofstra University after the first 18 holes. Making one of three scores under 80 on Friday was senior Samantha Milosh (Aliquippa, Pa./Center), who carded a 78 (40-38) and earned herself tied for second.
The honest 6,202 yard challenge for the women posed as no threat to Caryn Doege (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) after carding an 80 (37-43) and tying for fourth place after the first go-around. Senior Stephanie Switzer (Beaver, Pa./Beaver) made 81 (38-43) attempts during her 18 hole journey and newcomer Kaitlin Hensal (Seville, Ohio/Wadsworth) inked a 104 (49-55).
The combined score of 315 bettered Hofstra’s total of 334 by 19 strokes for a comfortable lead heading into round two. Round two is going to be played tomorrow, Saturday, October 20, as an 8:30am, shotgun start at the Quail Valley Golf Course. Tomorrow’s round will conclude the ladies’ fall docket.
