Red Flash ‘thinking pink’ for breast cancer awareness

LORETTO, Pa. (Feb. 6, 2008) – The Saint Francis University women’s basketball team will join over 800 teams nation-wide on Saturday when they host the school’s first annual WBCA “Think Pink Day” as the Red Flash take on Fairleigh Dickinson at 4 p.m.

The WBCA began "Think Pink" in 2007 as an initiative to raise breast cancer awareness in women's basketball, on campuses and in communities. In 2007, more than 120 schools unified for this effort and helped make the inaugural year of the WBCA's "Think Pink" a success.

“We need a huge crowd on Saturday- it’s going to be a fun event,” said Red Flash coach Susan Robinson Fruchtl.  “We would love to fill DeGol Arena up.  We’ve got a good team coming in, in FDU, but we need a lot of fans here to get a victory and to support a great cause.”

Saint Francis’ event will include a “Think Pink Social” at 2:30 p.m., where survivors and their families are invited to meet the Red Flash coaching staff, and a special halftime ceremony honoring survivors that will feature Altoona country music singer Ricky Lee.

In addition, survivors will receive a free t-shirt and admission into the afternoon’s game, along with four family members.

All seats in DeGol Arena are $2 for fans who wear pink and proceeds will go toward raising breast cancer awareness.

On the court, the Red Flash will pay tribute to survivors by wearing pink shooting shirts before the game and pink shoelaces during the game. Survivors can register for the event by calling Margie McHenry at (814) 472-3286 or by e-mail at mmchenry@francis.edu.
