Flash wrap up GW Invitational in 14th place
BETHANY BEACH, Del. (March 22, 2008) – The Saint Francis University men’s golf team wrapped up it is first tournament of the spring season, grabbing 14th place out of a 20 team field at the George Washington Invitational held at Bear Trap Dunes Golf Club.
The Red Flash fell two spots in the second and final day of competition, carding a combined 790 over the three-round event. The University of Maryland ended up taking the tournament championship with a score of 738 (318-319-153).
Senior Matt Gowdy (London, Ontario / A.B. Lucas) paced the Flash, firing an impressive 191 (78-74-39) for the event. Gowdy finished tied for 22nd place individually.
Sophomore Mike Magalski (Spring Grove, Pa. / Spring Grove) came in all knotted up for 52nd place, shooting a combined 196 (79-80-37).
Rounding out the Saint Francis contingent were senior Steve Foisy (Repentigny, Quebec/Academie Les Estacades) and freshman Joey Amelia (Chatham, Ontario/Chatham-Kent Secondary) who both finished in 74th place, notching a 202 and sophomore Patrick Finlan (London, Ontario/London Central) finished in 100th place, shooting a 218.
The Red Flash return to action at the Lafayette Invitational on April 12.
