Morse Earns SFU another NEC Scholar-Athlete Distinction – 43 SFU Athletes Named to NEC Winter Academic Honor Roll

Loretto, Pa. – The Northeast Conference released their five 2007-08 NEC Winter Scholar-Athlete award winners on Wednesday, April 2, listing Saint Francis women’s indoor track and field member senior Lisa Morse (Freedom, N.Y./Pioneer Central) as one of the beneficiaries for the first time in her career.

Morse has captured three NEC individual championships and is an eight-time All-NEC first or second team honoree.

This past indoor season, Morse earned four first place finishes for the shot put event at the Bison Invitational (14.28m), the Penn State Relays (14.44m), Bucknell Heptagonal (14.54m) and the Northeast Conference Championships (14.66m).  In addition to her aptness in the shot put, Morse earned a fourth place finish in the weight throw competition at the NEC Championships (15.54m).  Concluding her indoor career, Morse took down a fifth place finish at the ECAC Championships (14.10m).

Representing the Red Flash, Morse’s name graces the top nine throws from all indoor competitions this past winter slate.

Morse is obtaining her major in Biology/Marine Biology and upholds a 3.63 grade point average.

This past 2007 fall season, senior Bryce Luetzen (Denver, Colo./Colorado Lutheran) represented Saint Francis as the NEC Scholar-Athlete award winner for men’s soccer.  In November, Luetzen became the first men’s soccer player in school history to earn distinction as an ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American, earning second team honors. A four-year starter and two-year captain, Luetzen was the leader on a stingy defense that recorded a school record eight shutouts in 2007. The Red Flash yielded just seven goals and posted a league-best four shutouts in nine league games en-route to a second straight NEC title match appearance. The second team all-NEC pick also contributed on the offensive end with three assists. Luetzen, who is a Saint Francis and NEC Academic Honor Roll student, is a VITA Volunteer for the Dorothy Day Center, where he prepares tax returns for low income families. He helps coach local youth soccer teams, is a four-year volunteer with the Pennsylvania Special Olympics, participates in Relay for Life and is a member of Outreach to local elementary school children. Luetzen is also a member of Sigma Beta Delta, a Business Honors Society. An Accounting major, Luetzen maintains a 3.73 grade point average.

The NEC also announced its winter academic honor roll, comprised of 382 student-athletes. Saint Francis was bestowed with the honor of having 43 Red Flash athletes be a part of the esteemed list.
