Easton, Pa. – The Saint Francis men’s golf team was bestowed with the low medalist of the Lafayette Invitational in second-year swinger Mike Magalski (Spring Grove, Pa. / Spring Grove) with a 36-hole total of a one-under par 143 (72-71) en route to a sixth place finish overall for the Red Flash.  Magalski set himself in a seventh place tie after his round of 72 on Saturday, but came out on fire in Sunday’s second go-round, throwing darts left and right on Center Valley Country Club’s venue for a one-under par 71, capturing the lowest individual aggregate of the Invitational.

Saint Francis’ contingent put forth a balanced set of numbers with a comprehensive score of 610 (302-208), earning them a fine sixth place finish out of the 25 team field.  The Red Flash ended up in a four-way tie with three other teams after round one’s tee time agenda.

Bucknell University eclipsed Drexel University in the final round by setting off an extremely low five-man total of 291.  The Dragons were in first after Saturday, but the Bison stormed the trenches for a huge leap and the title.

Senior Matt Gowdy (London, Ontario / A.B. Lucas) performed extraordinarily well for the Red Flash also, turning in a T-6th place finish by carding a +3, 147 (74-73).  Fourth year veteran Steve Foisy (Repentigny, Quebec/Academie Les Estacades) complemented SFU by taking 155 (75-80) total whacks at the 6,703 yard challenge.  Freshman Joey Amelia (Chatham, Ontario/Chatham-Kent Secondary) tied for 108th after inking a 81-89 (170) in two days while sophomore Aaron Osysko (Parma, Ohio / Padua Franciscan) capped off a T-114th finish by scrambling for a 174 (90-84).

Magalski and the rest of the troops will try and remain on their high horse next weekend when they go up against some stiff competition at the Navy Spring Invitational put on by the U.S. Naval Academy Golf Club in Annapolis, Md.  The Red Flash first tee off on Saturday, April 19.
