Dade City, Fla. (April 27, 2008) – The Saint Francis women’s golf team late Sunday rally at the Northeast Conference Championships was not enough to overcome first-time champion Fairleigh Dickinson.  The Red Flash posted a 324 in round three, which ended up tying for the lowest single-day total of the tournament.

The Knights led the competition the entire way, thwarting any hopes of the Red Flash capturing their third consecutive NEC Championship.  SFU hopped up two spots from Saturday, though, finishing with a three-day grand total of a +134, 998.  FDU claimed the other 324 on Friday and followed it up with consecutive 330’s for the top spot in the 2007-2008 NEC Championships at Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club with a +120, 984.  Sacred Heart just missed the gold by putting together a + 122, 986 for second.

Just falling short of her third uninterrupted individual Northeast Conference championship, senior Samantha Milosh (Aliquippa, Pa./Center) fired an 80 in her final round for the Red Flash.  The NEC record-holder for lowest round ever (69) carded a 78-79-80 for a +21, 237 second place effort.  Milosh finishes her career with three team titles and two individual honors at the NEC season finale alongside six NEC Golfer of the Week nominations.

Central Connecticut State sophomore Lucie Sarochova captured the individual crown after carding a three-day score of 229.  The Blue Devil’s 77 on the first and third rounds of play rank tied for 10th on the NEC’s 18-hole championship performance list.  Her second round 75 is tied for sixth on the same list, while her 36-hole total of 152 sits tied for third.

Saint Francis’ other senior, Stephanie Switzer (Beaver, Pa./Beaver) finished in 10th place overall, knocking down an 83 in her last go-around donning the Red and White.  Switzer’s three-day final equaled a +32, 248 figure.

Sophomore Lisa Kocin (Parma, Ohio / Padua Franciscan) shredded Lake Jovita for her lowest round of the tournament on Sunday by inking an 80.  Kocin tied for 19th place with FDU’s Sarah Feldman after the Ohio native strung together an 84-92-80 for a +40, 256 total.

Freshman Caryn Doege (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) finished in a tie with Robert Morris’ Lauren Lancia at 25th after adding up a three-day total of +45, 261 (86-90-85).  Doege’s 85 on Sunday was her lowest output of the competition.

Freshman Laura Smith (State Line, Pa./Greencastle Antrim) made great strides in Sunday’s final test after carving out a fine score of 81 to go along with her first two accounts of 93 and 94.  Smith’s total of +52, 268 landed her in 34th overall, up five spots from Saturday.

As a final note, Milosh combined for the lowest average on all par 5s, scoring an even 5.00.  The two-time defending champ also scored the second lowest on all par 4s (+15, 4.50) as well as recording the second most pars (32) all weekend.  Doege documented the 2008 NEC Championship’s only eagle.

Saint Francis had their performance of six successive NEC championships snapped at Lake Jovita and will graduate two extremely successful seniors in Milosh and Switzer.  Milosh is still a top candidate for NEC Golfer of the Year honors.

The final nine-team leaderboard is as follows:
