Crystal Horton joins the Red Flash after spending the 2006-07 season as an assistant coach under Eileen Kleinfelter at Central Michigan University.   Among other duties, Horton will be handling scouting, recruiting, team travel, strength and conditioning, guard development and the honorary coach program.

While in Mount Pleasant, she served as the travel coordinator, headed the community outreach program and supervised players’ preseason and offseason strength and conditioning program.

Prior to her stint with the Chippewas, Horton served as a leadership intern with Athletes in Action Colorado Project in Fort Collins, Colo.  She creatively planned ways to maintain prayer as a priority and led corporate meetings for the project, which encouraged and empowered young people in their development as leaders.  She was also a summer intern with the AIA X-Project in Xenia, Ohio, where she was the co-camp director for the Little Dribblers camps and assisted women’s ministry director Stephanie Zonars.

Basketball has taken Horton a long way from her hometown of Austin, Texas.  She played two years for Geneva University in Beaver Falls, Pa., before transferring to Cedarville University in Ohio.  Under her maiden name of Wiley, she led the Yellow Jackets to back-to-back American Mideast Conference championships, as well as the NAIA Final Four championship game in 04-05.  She graduated in 2006 with a degree in Sport Management.

Horton was no stranger to winning when she arrived at Cedarville.  While at St. Michael’s Catholic Academy in Austin, she led the Crusaders to three state titles before graduating in 2001.

Horton took a leave of absence during the 2007-08 season to marry her husband, Timirr, and to give birth to her son.  She and Timirr currently reside in Ebensburg with their son, Nehemiah.
