KENT, Ohio (Aug. 30, 2008) – The Saint Francis women’s field hockey team lost it’s first game to the 2008 season to Kent State by a score of 9-0 on Saturday at the Murphy-Mellis Field in Kent, Ohio.

The Red Flash will take on the University of Pennsylvania at 7:15 p.m. on Sept. 5 at Franklin Field in Philadelphia.

Kent State forward Rachel Miller scored seven minutes in to the contest on a two-on-one in front of the net. Debbie Bell scored on a penalty shot five minutes later to start a flurry of goals by the Golden Flashes, who would score four more goals in the next 15 minutes of the first half.

Senior goalkeeper Erin Reifsteck (Battle Creek, Mich./Saint Phillip) had 12 saves in the contest as she did her part to try to keep the Red Flash in the game. Captain Belen Albanes (Atlanta, Ga./Dunwoody) had two shots, with one on goal. Jesse Ehrhardt (Hackettstown, N.J./Lower Dauphin), Therese Nunnally (El Cajon, Calif./U. of San Diego) and Erin Weaver (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) all had one shot each.

“We’re working hard every day,” said first-year head coach Stacey Bean. “This will help us improve for the next game.”
