Red Flash Field Hockey Falls to Penn 2-0
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (Sept. 5, 2008) – The Saint Francis field hockey team fell to the University of Pennsylvania 2-0 on Friday at Franklin Field in Philadelphia.
The Red Flash, who are still looking for their first win of the season, remain in Philadelphia for a game against Drexel at noon on Sunday in Philadelphia. The team then returns to Loretto for their first home game of the season against Bryant at 7:00 pm on September 12.
Quaker midfielder Margeretha Ehret scored an unassisted goal with 9:48 remaining in the first half to give Penn a 1-0 lead. The lead would stretch to 2-0 at the beginning of the second half on atip-in goal by midfielder Christina Ferrier. Junior defender Sarah Warner assisted on Ferrier’s goal.
Saint Francis’ lone shot came from sophomore Rebecca Reiff (Farmingdale, N.J./Wall). The Red Flash were out shot 12-1 in the game.
Senior Erin Reifsteck (Battle Creek, Mich./Saint Phillip), a 2007 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American, was solid in the net, holding the Quakers to only 2 goals. Reifsteck had nine saves in the contest.
