Red Flash Forward Seibert Named Brine/NEC Player-of-the-Week for Women’s Soccer
LORETTO, Pa. (Sept. 15, 2008) – The Northeast Conference announced today that Saint Francis women’s soccer player Rachael Seibert (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) has been named the Brine/NEC Player-of-the-Week.
The junior forward had a hat trick in Friday’s overtime win against the Colgate Raiders. Her third and final tally of the night game less than three minutes into sudden death overtime to end the game and give Saint Francis the 4-3 win.
Seibert is tied for third in the NEC with 4 goals and 8 points on the season. She currently leads the Red Flash in both categories, and is tied for first with 12 shots.
She is the first Red Flash player in three years to receive the NEC’s Player-of-the-Week award. The last player to do so was Viviane Villar, who received the honor for the week of Oct. 2, 2005.
This is the second time this season a Red Flash player has been honored by the Northeast Conference. Freshman midfielder Traci Flick (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) won Rookie-of-the-Weeks honors for the week of September 1st after scoring a hat trick of her own in a 4-2 at Holy Cross on August 28.
It is the first time in six years Red Flash players have won Player-of-the-Week and Rookie-of-the-Week honors in the same season. The last time occurred when Allison Tidball (September 9, 2002) and Liz Ostrander (October 28, 2002) won Player-of-the-Week accolades, while Meghan Pearson was named the Rookie-of-the-Week for the week of Sept. 30, 2002.
The Red Flash women’s soccer team is currently riding a school-record 8 game unbeaten streak that dates back to last October. The Flash were last defeated by Monmouth on Oct. 28, 2007. They have gone into overtime or double overtime all but once this season. Their lone regulation win came at Holy Cross on August 28.
The team will travel to Ohio take on Youngstown State at 4 P.M. on September 19.
