Red Flash Runners Sweep Rookie Honors

LORETTO, Pa. (Sept. 16, 2008) – The Northeast Conference has selected Saint Francis cross country runners Kyle Gibson (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon McMillan) and Sarah Grossi (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon McMillan) as the Men’s and Women’s Rookies-of-the-Week for the week of September 16, as announced today by the league.

Gibson finished second overall at the Second Annual Father Bede Hines Invitational on Saturday in Loretto, where the Red Flash competed against Juniata College.  He was the first rookie to cross the finish line, and did so in a time of 16:48.00.

Grossi, already a track & field athlete for the Red Flash, placed was the third overall finisher in the women’s 5K race at the Father Bede Hines Invite.  She finished in third place, with a time of 21:10.00.

Both the men’s and women’s cross country teams travel to Monmouth on September 19 for the Annual Monmouth University Invite.  The event will start at 5 pm.
