Assistant Coach Henry Chuang
(First Season - Loyola Marymount '00)

Henry Chuang enters his first season as an assistant coach for the Red Flash men’s and women’s volleyball teams.

Chuang, who was born in Tapei, Taiwan and grew up in Los Gatos, Calif., comes to Loretto after serving one season as an assistant coach for the men’s and women’s volleyball teams at Rutgers-Newark. While his stop in Newark was his first at an NCAA institution, Chuang brings 13 years of coaching experience to the sideline, including several years at the international level.

Prior to coaching at Rutgers-Newark, he spent four years as the head men’s volleyball coach, as well as head juniors coach, for TV Buehl, Germany. While leading the German sports club’s programs, his men’s team claimed a Division 3 championship, and a Relegation title while qualifying for the second national division.

His juniors U-18 teams were two-time Southern Germany champions, while his U-21 team earned a Southern Germany title, as well as a silver medal at the 2007 national championships.

While serving as men’s and women’s coach for SSC Vellmar in Germany from 2001-03, Chuang helped the women’s team to a Division 3 championship, earning them a spot in the second national division. He also served as an assistant coach at the Youth/Junior National Team Training Center 2001-03.

Chuang entered the coaching ranks after graduating from Bellarmine College Prep in San Jose, Calif., in 1994. He worked at several high schools and on juniors clubs teams in northern and southern California. He played one season for the University of California-Santa Cruz before transferring to Loyola Marymount, where he received his bachelor of arts in Psychology.

Chuang is fluent in English and German, and can hold a conversation in French.
