Albanes Named NEC Field Hockey Player-of-the-Week
LORETTO, Pa. (Nov. 3, 2008) – Saint Francis field hockey player Belen Albanes (Atlanta, Ga./Dunwoody) has been named the Northeast Conference Player-of-the-Week for her performance in the final week of the regular season, as announced by the league on Monday.
Albanes, a senior forward, had a goal in regulation in Friday's overtime win against Robert Morris at DeGol Field. She then sent a pass over to teammate Allison Severage (Garwood, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson), who netted the game winner with 11:26 left to play in overtime.
The three points give Albanes a career total of 49, the most by a field hockey player in Saint Francis history. She is also the career leader in goals with a total of 22.
This is the first time in program history a Red Flash player has been honored as the Player-of-the-Week by the NEC. The last time the NEC honored Saint Francis for field hockey was in 2005 when current goalkeeper Erin Reifsteck (Battle Creek, Mich./Saint Phillip) was honored as the Rookie-of-the-Week for the week of October 17.
