Red Flash Track Teams Have Successful Outing at Fast Track
NEW YORK, N.Y. (Feb. 27, 2009) – One week after finishing first and fifth at the Northeast Conference Championships, the Saint Francis men’s and women’s indoor track & field teams had a successful outing at the NYU Fast Track Invitational at the Armory Track & Field Center in New York.
The Red Flash 4 x 400 meter relay team took 13th place at the meet. The quartet of Kayla Kline (Ebensburg, Pa./Cambria Heights), Christy Staily (Martinsburg, Pa./Central), Nicole Brownyard (Carlisle, Pa./Trinity) and Sarah Frydrych (Wilmington, Del./Saint Marks) crossed the line in a time of 4:15.04.
In the field events, Liz deMedal (New Wilmington, Pa./Wilmington Area) grabbed ninth for SFU in the women’s pole vault. She finished the event with a final distance of 3.19 meters. In one of the best finishes of the day, Christin Bridge (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine Richland) placed second in the shot put with a distance of 12.93 meters.
On the men’s side, Lloyd Foster (Bowie, Md./DeMatha Catholic) picked up 23rd place in the 800 meter run. Foster crossed the finish line in a time of 1:57.55. Jeremy Tice (Littleton, Colo./Chatfield) also did well for the men, finishing the 1000 meter run in a time of 2:28.46. Tice’s time was good enough for second place in the event.
Michael Steffenino (Adara, Pa./Norwin) started the men’s field events with a tie for fifth in the pole vault. His final distance was 4.26 meters. Denis Eradiri (Sofia, Bulgaria/Vladislav Gramatik 73) continued with the men’s field success, taking fourth in the long jump with a jump of 7.13 meters. William Velez (Staten Island, Pa./Benedictine) also competed in the event, coming in 13th with a distance of 6.58 meters.
Eradiri went on to finish second in the triple jump with a distance of 15.25 meters. Ben Maderia (Summerhill, Pa./Forest Hills) won the shot put event. His longest throw of 15.83 meters was .43 meters farther than the second place finisher. Maderia also took the weight throw with a distance of 18.43 meters. Teammate Kyle DeWyngaert (Red Bank, N.J./Red Bank) also competed in the event, finishing third with a throw of 18.00 meters.
