Red Flash’s Kent Earns Rookie Honors
LORETTO, Pa. (March 16, 2009) – After tying two school records and setting a new single game points record, freshman attack Chelsea Kent (Winter Springs, Fla./Winter Springs) has been tabbed the Northeast Conference Rookie-of-the-Week, as announced by the league on Monday. This marks the first time in program history a Red Flash player has received a weekly award from the NEC.
Kent netted five goals on March 12 against Niagara in the team’s season opener. Though the Flash fell 12-11 to the Purple Eagles, Kent’s goals tie the school’s single-game record. Former Red Flash player Katy Green is the only other play in program history to notch five goals in a game, a feat she accomplished twice.
In addition to her tallies, Kent also dished out three helpers, tying the school’s single-game assist record as well. Three other Red Flash players have recorded three assists in a game. However, no other player has accrued eight points in game, marking a new program record for Kent.
After her record-breaking performance against Niagara, Kent racked up four points in the team’s 20-10 loss to Bryant. She notched two goals and two assists, ending the weekend with 12 points.
Saint Francis will host Howard on Wednesday at DeGol Field in a 5 p.m. match up.
