SFU HOLDS 2nd ANNUAL SAINT FRANCIS UNIVERSITY SUMMER STEP RESEARCH SYMPOSIUM
On July 6, 2007, Saint Francis University held the 2nd Annual Saint Francis University Summer STEP Research Symposium. The event took place on the Loretto campus in the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art. Students showcased and presented their findings on research projects completed during the summer. Area students that conducted research for the projects include: Aaron Osysko, Alex Yeisley, Anne Stock, Brad Kelly, Brenda Kibler, Christian Mychajlonka, David Kirby, Elizabeth Huey, Heather Harteis, Jacqueline Caskey, Jason Burkett, Joe Rosmus, Jonathan Sirianni, KaLynn Kline, Kaylyn Oshaben, Kellie Skoner, Kim Schrock, Kurt Hoffman, Leah Warmkessel, Lisa Morse, Rachel Grabowski, Shawn Lehman and Tim Gaborek.
The Saint Francis University students researched topics in biology, chemistry, and computer science. Research displayed at the event included: effects of changing self-assembled monolayer composition on cytochrome c electron transfer kinetics and synthesis of iron complexes of tetra (2, 6-dihydroxyphenyl) porphyrins.
Funding for the students' work came from organizations including the National Science Foundation STEP (STEM Talent Expansion Program), the DiSepio Endowment, as well as other departments at Saint Francis University.
