Saint Francis University Students Receive Research Grants
Two Saint Francis University students recently received research grants from the Tri-Beta Biology Honor Society. The awards are Beta Beta Beta Research Foundation grants, given to support undergraduate students conducting research. Lisa Morse, a senior at Saint Francis, received a grant for her project, entitled, “Breaking the Life Cycle of Cryptocaryon irritans With Chemical Substances, Produced by Fish". Brenda Kibler, a junior at Saint Francis, received a grant for her project, entitled, “Taxonomic identification of symbiotic bacteria isolated from the sponge Mycale.”
The purpose of the awards is to support undergraduate research by awarding cash scholarships annually to students conducting research. Tri-Beta is an honor society for biology students, particularly undergraduates. The society is dedicated to improving the understanding and appreciation of biological study and extending the boundaries of human knowledge through scientific research. The society was founded in 1922. There are more than 430 chapters established throughout the United States and Puerto Rico.
