Saint Francis University will host a Social Skills Group, Saint Francis CARES (Children with Autism Receiving Emotional and Social Training). The group will meet on Thursdays from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. beginning Thursday, October 11, and continuing until Thursday November 15. The class is free, and space is limited.
The class is open to children ages 8 -11 who have a diagnosis of Asperger Syndrome or High Functioning Autism, or those with similar characteristics, and are having difficulty interacting with friends, understanding emotions and/or communicating effectively with others. The class will focus on topics such as conversation skills, good sportsmanship, and apologizing. It will be instructed by Saint Francis students in the education program, who will be under the direct supervision of an education department faculty member.
