Caleb Brantner, a senior economics major, had a short article published in the June 26 edition of the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland's online research periodical "Economic Trends." Caleb co-wrote the article with O. Emre Ergungor, senior research economist, and Patricia Waiwood, research Analyst, both of the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland.
The article presents data on consumer savings and expenditures and comes to the conclusion that, "consumers seem to be proceeding with caution. Their expectations about their financial condition in the future are gradually improving, but they’re not reverting back to the low-savings, high-spending behavior that characterized the pre-recession period." The article has already been cited by Bloomberg's "The Ticker":
Caleb has been spending this summer working as a research intern at the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland. He is the current president of the Society of Economic Analysis and has participated in the College Federal Reserve Challenge the last two years. He is also the current philanthropy chairman for the Sigma Chi chapter on campus.
