“Good teaching comes in a myriad of forms, but good teachers share one trait. They "are able to weave a complex web of connections among themselves, their subjects, and their students, so that students can learn to weave a world for themselves. The connections made by good teachers are held not in their methods but in their hearts--the place where intellect and emotion and spirit will converge in the human self." -- From The Courage to Teach: Exploring the Inner Landscape of a Teacher’s Life by Parker J. Palmer.
Why Study Education at SFU
Have you been inspired by a teacher, have a desire to give back to your community in a rewarding way or do you simply have passion for a particular field of study and want to share this passion with others? That’s the kind of enthusiasm we like to see! Education is learned in the classroom, not only in theory but in practice and that is why you’ll be teaching your first year. The Graduate Education programs are designed to help current teachers advance to the next level of mastery within their profession and to prepare non-teaching professions to enter the field of education.
Teaching Certification Requirements
An applicant for a teaching certificate must complete, in addition to all legal requirements, a program of teacher preparation approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Certification programs offered by Saint Francis University have been approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. The Education Department may permit a student to complete a degree in Education without seeking a Pennsylvania teaching certificate.
