Engineering Program

3-2 Engineering Advantages

Consider the benefits of selecting the Saint Francis University Engineering Program.  At Saint Francis University students earn a bachelor of arts degree and a bachelor of science degree in five years.

  • An opportunity to complete two bachelors degrees in just five years. Most students spend three years at Saint Francis, then transfer to an ABET-accredited engineering school, completing their bachelor of arts degree in year four and their bachelor of science degree in year five.

  • Formal transfer agreements with the engineering schools of Clarkson University, NY; The Pennsylvania State University, PA; Washington University, MO; and University of Pittsburgh, PA. Students admitted to Saint Francis who meet the progression standards are guaranteed placement with these schools.

  • A broad-based educational experience emphasizing liberal arts and communication skills, a competitive advantage in career pursuits.

  • An interactive student/instructor relationship with a highly qualified faculty and a student-teacher ratio of 10:1. The department faculty, with experience in chemistry, mathematics and physical science, includes six doctorates, two master's degrees, and vast practical and research experience.

  • Engineering internships, designed to integrate classroom theory with practical work experience, which can be conducted for 3 to 15 credits.

  • The MECS Club, Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science The MECS at Saint Francis University, made up of mathematics, computer science, and engineering majors, advances student learning experiences through speakers, community service projects and field visits to industrial sites, graduate schools and professional organizations and conferences. The MECS club is also highly active in tutoring students on campus and at local high schools. In just the last few years the club has traveled to Colorado, North Carolina, Niagra Falls (New York), as well as a number of regional conferences and events in the tri-state area. The MECS club has a resumé service, holds two annual picnics, and picks up litter on a designated two-mile section of the Loretto - Ebensburg Road. This club is also very involved in renewable energy projects.

  • Independent study programs and special topic seminars, that allow students to pursue areas of special interest for 1-8 credits, working closely with a faculty mentor.
