Find out more about Frankie the Friar.
Frankie the Friar is the official mascot of the Saint Francis University Red Flash. The University's original friar mascot debuted in 1983 and has been a mainstay at SFU athletics events ever since. The current rendition of Frankie first appeared during the 2009-10 athletics season.
The large friar-looking creature standing next to head basketball coach Kevin Porter is not necessarily a new Red Flash recruit, rather, he is the original Saint Francis College mascot. Donning a red habit and size 19 sneakers, the mascot was created by Otto Bruno of Creative Critters in Warminster, PA. He arrived on campus in time for the 1983-84 school year and since then has been greeting new students and old, parents, faculty and staff, and visitors to the College. He has been a smashing success at numerous on-campus events, and equally successful in his off-campus debut to generate enthusiasm and enhance school spirit. And in just a few months on the job he had done exceptionally well in that category.
