Saint Francis University will present the Dr. Albert A. Zanzuccki Endowed Chair in the School of Business Distinguished Lecture Series. This year Mr. Andrew Ross Sorkin will give a talk entitled "Inside Wall Street and What is Next for the Economy." He is a financial columnist and chief mergers and acquisitions reporter for The New York Times. As the founding editor and current editor-at-large of DealBook, an online daily financial report published by The Times, Sorkin is also the Co-host of CNBC’s Squawk Box, an assistant editor of business and finance news, as well as an author of a national bestseller.
Sorkin began writing for The Times as a student in high school. Over the years, he has published articles on media, business and technology, many of which were breaking news, including Chase’s acquisition of J.P. Morgan and Hewlett-Packard’s acquisition of Compaq.
Sorkin created DealBook in 2001 as one of the first financial news services on the web. With over 200,000 subscribers, DealBook has won many awards like Webby, EPpy and SABEW.
His national bestseller, Too Big To Fail: The Inside Story of How Wall Street and Washington Fought to Save the Financial System – and Themselves was released in 2009. Winning the Gerard Loeb Award for Best Business Book of the Year and the reoccurrence on The New York Times Best Seller list for over six months, Too Big To Fail is a first behind-the-scenes look into how the 2007 financial crisis development took over corporations and economies around the world. The Economist, Financial Times and BusinessWeek all named Too Big To Fail one of the best books of the year, which was then adapted into a film by HBO. Co-produced by Sorkin, the film was nominated for 11 Primetime Emmy Awards.
As a leading voice for Wall Street and corporate America, Sorkin is a frequent guest on shows like The Today Show, Charlie Rose, Meet the Press, The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer, Talk of the Nation, as well as a guest lecturer at universities across the country.
Chosen as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum, Sorkin has won the Loeb Award and two SABEW awards for his coverage of breaking news. He was called one of New York’s “most influential scribes”, appeared on Vanity Fair’s “Next Establishment” list twice and named to the top 2011 Directorship 100. Sorkin is currently the co-anchor of CNBC’s early-morning business analysis program, Squawk Box.
