Master of Education Success Stories
Here's what some Saint Francis University Graduate Education graduates and certification students had to say about the programs:
The opportunity to complete graduate/certification programs at Saint Francis University was invaluable to me both professionally and personally. Engaging in inspiring courses, networking with progressive educators from local school districts, and practical educational experiences enabled me to gain knowledge in the field that could be immediately applied at the district-level to help students, parents, and those professionals who strive to help them. It was a privilege to work closely with university instructors who emphasized the importance of being an active and informed leader. I greatly appreciate their continued mentorship and hope to return the favor to university students and young professionals in the future."
"My experience with Saint Francis has been nothing but positive. Because of the class schedule and variety of locations, I completed my Master of Education and Principal Certification while teaching full-time. The professors have been knowledgeable and understanding of scheduling conflicts, such as Open House or Parent/Teacher conferences. I am currently enrolled in the Reading Specialist Certification program. The Reading Clinic at Saint Francis provides additional support to area students and allows undergraduate students to work with students in a small group or individual setting. The practicum requirements for both certificates are valuable in numerous ways, as I plan objectives that interest me and will benefit my school. I would recommend Saint Francis to any teacher wishing to further his/her degree."
"Getting my masters of education degree through St. Francis was a rewarding experience. The curriculum and the course work were both relevant and beneficial in my classroom. I especially appreciated the professional relationships I formed with my professors; they genuinely care about education and my growth as an educator. In addition, the program application, course registration, and the graduation process were painless processes."
"When Saint Francis announced the opening of a local cohort I was thrilled. This meant I could not only work and take classes, but that I wouldn't have to travel to the university during the week. The convenience of taking classes in same the location allowed me to get home quickly to my family as well as complete my M.Ed in a short amount of time. I would highly recommend participating in an SFU cohort in your area."
"My graduate experience in the Education Department at Saint Francis University proved to be invaluable on many levels. The challenging coursework, in combination with the structure of the practicum, provided me with a solid foundation on which to pursue an administrative position. I credit the Education Department at Saint Francis University for providing me with the skills and confidence I needed to succeed through the interview process and in my current position as an elementary principal."
“Saint Francis University provided a quality program tailored to fit the schedule of persons who are employed full time. The Professors and the courses were top notch, and I am grateful for the experience and support I obtained through Saint Francis.”
“St. Francis has a great program for three reasons: it is convenient, it is practical, and it is rigorous. Classes were offered right at my school, so my travel was limited. All my professors had several years of experience as both teachers and school administrators, so I could trust their judgment. And most importantly, I left the program feeling prepared for my future career aspirations.”
“I started the MED program in January 2009 and completed it in the summer of 2011. The program was easy to enroll in and the staff at SFU is outstanding. As an adult student going back to school I was apprehensive about taking classes again but once I started all the professors went out of their way to insure I understood the material and took the time to meet with me when I had questions. I remember calling several of them on their personal cell phones at home and they didn’t mind answering your questions, whether it was the weekend or not.The professors made the experience very personable and to this day I feel I could call anyone of them and seek their expert advice. They knew most of us had families and other jobs and were very understanding when it came to scheduling. I also have to add the terrific help I had from Sherri Toth. I can’t tell you the number of times I called her and she always had an answer. She was very understanding and sent us all emails reminding us of deadlines. Thanks to all the office staff, professors, and our advisor. You truly made this a terrific and exciting experience.”
"The Graduate Education programs at Saint Francis University are second to none. Saint Francis University prepares its graduates for a lifetime of public service. We are taught the values of Saint Francis of Assisi: love, compassion, peace, trust in god, respect, simplicity, service, and joy as part of the ethics in education course. Since Saint Francis was an educator, it is only fitting we learn such fundamental values in order to help guide our beliefs in an ever-changing world. I feel blessed to have earned two graduate degrees from Saint Francis University and to be a lifetime member of such a wonderful and distinguished alumni base."
“My experience at Saint Francis has been wonderful. I have enjoyed the small class sizes and flexible scheduling options. The professors are knowledgeable and are always willing to help their students be successful. I have grown immensely as an educator through my time at Saint Francis University and would recommend any of my colleagues to pursue their graduate education there as well.”
"After graduating from Penn State in 2004 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology, I decided to get a teaching certification from Saint Francis University. My passion was in education, so I decided to follow this. I really liked the small class sizes and the individualized attention I received at SFU. I cannot speak highly enough about the faculty that went out of their way to help me, who always had an open door policy. They were easily approachable and related things to real-life, which I really liked. I completed my teaching certification in 2006. I like the Education Department at Saint Francis University so much, I decided to get my Masters in Educational Leadership from here as well, which I completed in a year-and-a-half. (Jan 2008-Dec. 2009). I loved everything I learned in my masters classes, and decided to pursue a Principal Certification as well. I started this program right away and completed it in December of 2010. Everyone in the SFU Education Department went out of their way on a daily basis to help their students out and always get them answers to their questions. Currently, I reside in State College, Pennsylvania and teach at the new high school here. Saint Joseph's Catholic Academy is located in Boalsburg, Pennsylvania. I teach high school students all day in Honors Biology, College Prep Biology, and Health here and love every minute of it! I also just received my Level II teaching certification as well. Thank you so much to Saint Francis University for making my experience one that I will never forget. I have recommended several teacher friends to SFU's Graduate Education program as well. Those that are enrolled love it as well."
