DiSepio Institute to offer SilverSneakers program for senior citizens

March 12, 2013

The DiSepio Institute for Rural Health and Wellness at Saint Francis will begin to offer the SilverSneakers fitness program to local senior citizens. The SilverSneakers program provides safe and effective exercise for adults age 65 and older to help them reach their health and wellness goals. Adults who have never exercised before or have never been in fitness environments may utilize this safe and effective exercise program to get fit and healthy.

Group exercise class offerings will begin the week of March 18, and will be held at the DiSepio Institute in Loretto. The first class, SilverSneakers Muscular Strength and Range of Movement, will run on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. This class is designed to increase strength, range of movement, agility, balance and coordination, and to improve the participant’s functional capacities, physical fitness level, and sense of well-being. Additional group exercise programming in the upcoming months will include the SilverSneakers Cardio Circuit class.

Senior citizens who are eligible to participate in SilverSneakers will also have access to SilverSneakers group exercise classes and to the DiSepio Fitness Center. Senior citizens should contact their health insurance provider to find out if SilverSneakers is a benefit of their insurance. If it is not, the cost will be $10 per class.
