Two women playing twelve instruments! The award-winning, musical duo Simple Gifts is back as Saint Francis University’s Artists-in-Residence for the fall 2013 semester. The fun, energetic duo performed on campus in November 2012, and returned by popular demand.
Simple Gifts plays a variety of ethnic-folk styles, from lively Irish jigs, to down-home American reels, to everything in between. Based in the hills of central Pennsylvania, these women play an amazing array of instruments. They combine tradition and innovation, creating some of the finest arrangements in folk music today. Simple Gifts delivers their music with intensity and enthusiasm, making this a show that is not to be missed!
As part of their Artist-in-Residence duties, Simple Gifts performed concerts and hosted workshops for the local and Saint Francis communities throughout the semester. Their grand finale will take place on Saturday, November 23. From 5:30 to 6:30 pm they will hold a workshop that is open to the public in the campus’ JFK Auditorium. All ages are invited to participate and bring folk instruments. The cost is $3 or a donation to the Dorothy Day Center’s Food Bank. They will conclude with a public performance at 7 pm in the JFK Auditorium. The cost is $5 or a donation to the Dorothy Day Center’s Food Bank.
This project is partially supported by a grant from Pennsylvania Performing Arts on Tour, a program developed and funded by the Heinz Endowments; the William Penn Foundation; the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency; and The Pew Charitable Trusts; and administered by Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation.
