Saint Francis' Society of Economic Analysis (SEA) College Federal Reserve Challenge team competed in the third district semifinals competition on Thursday, November 8, at Lehigh University.
The team prepared a presentation outlining an "exit strategy" for the Federal Reserve so that traditional monetary policy could commence. The judges complimented the content of the team's presentation and noted that no other team addressed the complexity of the current Federal Reserve balance sheet. The College Federal Reserve Challenge competition takes place in several of the 12 regional districts of the Federal Reserve.
Teams prepared a 15-minute presentation summarizing the current macroeconomic environment, providing forecasts for key macroeconomic indicators, and providing a recommendation for monetary policy in the future. The teams were then subjected to a 15-minute question and answer session with a panel of distinguished economists.
This year's team was led by captain Conor Norris, a senior economics major, and also included Caleb Brantner, senior economics major; Timothy Keith, senior economics major; Robert Oberkofler, sophomore accounting and economics major; Lucas Schulze, senior economics and finance major; and alternate Geoffrey Ford, freshman business administration major. The SEA club and Fed Challenge team are advised by Dr. Edward Timmons, associate professor of economics.
