Dr. Bill Strosnider publishes two articles

Dr. Bill Strosnider, assistant professor of environmental engineering, is the lead author of two articles published in the Journal of Environmental Earth Sciences titled "Acid mine drainage at Cerro Rico de Potosi I: Unabated high-strength discharges reflect a five century legacy of mining" and "Acid mine drainage at Cerro Rico de Potosi II: Severe degradation of the Upper Rio Pilcomayo watershed". The works were a collaboration with Prof. Freddy Llanos of the Universidad Autonoma Tomas Frias and Dr. Robert Nairn of the University of Oklahoma.

These articles illuminate widespread aquatic contamination from centuries of mining without any environmental controls. Also highlighted is the consistent disregard for environmental law coupled with the lack of consequences for breaking these laws.
