The Spirit of Saint Francis

You Name it. They Play it.

The SFU University bands are always there to showcase their skills, provide excitement, and rally our fans!

In addition to the Pep Band, Saint Francis University fielded the school's first-ever Marching Band during the 2012 football season. The marching band is a "Flash of Pride" that immediately captured the hearts of the Red Flash faithful assembled at DeGol Field.

Our bands have a wide array of tunes including:

  • Today's Pop Hits
  • Classical
  • Jazz
  • Rock-n-roll
  • and so much more!

From bringing energy to campus and community events to ratcheting up the excitement of athletic events, SFU Bands do it all with spirit.

Scholarship Opportunities

SFU is one of the few PA Universities to offer band scholarships.

Scholarships are available for all Saint Francis Marching Band members in the amount of $2,000. Additional scholarship money can be awarded based on instrument need, merit, and service to the band. Marching Band members can also earn an additional $1,000 for participating in the Saint Francis Pep Band.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Who can join?

Membership is open to Saint Francis University undergraduates and graduate students, with an audition scheduled at the beginning of each school year. Members typically have prior experience playing in student level ensembles. Not a Music major? Not a problem! We welcome members from all majors and areas of study.

  • How often does the band play?

The Band season runs from September until April, with typically 30 dates of performance over the course of the school year. The Marching Band will play at all home football games over the course of the season (usually a five-game schedule), and may also participate in local parades and functions.

The Pep Band performs at all men's and women's basketball games, travels to select road games and all NEC and NCAA Tournament games, and also plays at occasional home men's and women's volleyball matches. On average, that constitutes 20 dates over the course of the season.

  • Is this a competition band?

No. Contrary to popular belief, marching band competitions do not exist at the University level. However, in true Saint Francis fashion, we strive to be the best, no matter what! We focus our energy toward making DeGol Field and DeGol Arena exciting places to be on a Red Flash game day!
