September 6, 2013
Start Time: 4 pm
Location: Science Center
Saint Francis University will bless and dedicate its newly opened Science Center on Friday, September 6, at 4:00 pm. Tours of the building will be given after the dedication. The new 70,000 square-foot science center building is a flagship facility for science and technology programs on campus. It houses state-of-the-art classrooms, laboratories and research facilities (including an aquatic research facility), advanced chemical instrumentation and youth outreach areas. There are also places for students and faculty to gather, study and learn.
The Center provides Saint Francis students with an outstanding educational experience and is helping the University expand efforts to serve the wider community in a manner true to Franciscan values and unique among institutions of higher education. The new science outreach facilities will allow our students and faculty to be more involved with K-12 Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) teachers and school children in Pennsylvania, engaging the best of the University’s energy and talents. New research laboratories permit our students and faculty to apply state-of-the-art solutions to issues, such as acid-mine drainage problems in Pennsylvania and internationally in Bolivia.
The Science Center project was the second phase of the three-phased capital campaign to invest in the sciences and health sciences. The first phase, The DiSepio Institute for Rural Health and Wellness, was completed in April 2009. The third phase, the renovation of Sullivan Hall, will better serve the needs of health sciences students and will commence upon completion of the Science Center.
