Industry Need for AMTs
The U.S. Department of Labor cites a critical workforce gap in the aviation maintenance field with an estimated 132,000 new technicians needed in the United States alone by 2040. SFU's Aviation Maintenance Technician training program was developed to help fill this workforce need.
Aviation Maintenance Technician School
Saint Francis University received a $1 million grant from the ARC's POWER Initiative in 2022 to launch an Aviation Maintenance Technician School at the John P. Murtha Johnstown Cambria County Airport in Johnstown through a collaboration with the Johnstown-Cambria County Airport Authority, Nulton Aviation Services, Cambria County, SkyWest Airlines, Lockheed Martin Aeroparts, Inc., and Martin-Baker America. The AMTS aims to provide a fast-paced program that prepares students for work as Aviation Maintenance Technicians with both Airframe and Powerplant certifications.
Elite Partner with Skywest Airlines
In 2022, SFU became an Elite Partner with SkyWest Airlines. The partnership allows SFU students to access SkyWest’s Pilot Pathway Program and the Aviation Maintenance Technician (AMT) Pathway Program.
These programs allow students access to various benefits while completing their training, including mentoring by experienced pilots and mechanics, enhanced company seniority, and a guaranteed job interview.
