STUDENT OPPORTUNITIES

Our School of STEAM gives students the opportunity to conduct research as early as soon as their freshman year. Our students practice their new skills through outreach activities such as Science Day, Multicultural Week, Darwin Day,  Rural Outreach Chemistry for Kids (R.O.C.K.),  PA Statistics Poster Competition, Pi Day, and many more. Many students also take part in study abroad programs and immersive learning experiences.

407,120 dollars in external grants secured for the 2020-2021 academic year by STEAM faculty and staff
5,627 friends in the community engaged in 193 STEAM activities during the 2020-2021 academic year
353 students enrolled in STEAM programs during the Fall 2021 semester
 
54 faculty in STEAM to challenge, support, and mentor students
21 students completed STEAM undergraduate research in the summer of 2021, while being paid minimum wage, with free housing and meal plan funded by the university and school
17 students on average in each STEAM class, to ensure students are engaged and involved, able to ask and answer questions
7 students for each faculty member (student to faculty ratio), ensuring students get individual attention

Rural Outreach Chemistry for Kids Turns 30

Since 1995, the Rural Outreach Chemistry for Kids (R.O.C.K.) program at Saint Francis University has had an enormous impact, with over 3,700 events reaching over 86,000 school children and community members.

Set in the intimate, high-tech space at the heart of the new Connors Family Fine Arts Center, this performance was more than just a play; it was an experience that challenged perspectives and sparked meaningful conversations.

Saint Francis University Earns Most Improved Voting Rate

The 2022 NSLVE report recognized Saint Francis University for its strong voter engagement, earning the Most Improved Voting Rate in the Pennsylvania Campus Voting Challenge, the Presidential Commitment Seal, and a Silver Seal from the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge. SFU also celebrated Constitution Day and National Voter Registration Day, launching a voter registration drive to promote civic participation.

17th Mock Convention Maintains 64-year Campus Tradition

Approximately 200 people participated, including SFU students, alumni, faculty, administrators, and staff. Students visiting from area colleges also took part along with high school students from the SFU Upward Bound program who played prominent roles.

Connors Family Fine Arts Center Unveiled

The Connors Family Fine Arts Center on 181 St. Catherine Street, Loretto, Pa., officially opened with a blessing and dedication ceremony on April 18, 2024. This new 15,000-square-foot space facility is home to the Resinski Black Box Theatre and the University's visual arts, music, and marching band programs.

History of Mock Conventions at Saint Francis University

SFU mock conventions are held every four years for the party that is currently out of the White House. These mock conventions have taken place since 1960, and they have become a tradition on the Saint Francis University campus.
