Biography
Justin Grant brings 15 years of hands-on experience in aviation maintenance and leadership to his role as an instructor. He began his career in 2009 with the Pennsylvania Army National Guard (PAANG), specializing in Apache helicopter repair after completing Advanced Individual Training (AIT) in 2010.
Justin’s expertise grew through deployments, including a tour in Afghanistan (2012–2013), where he led a phase maintenance team responsible for heavy repairs on AH-64D Apache helicopters based on aircraft hours flown, operational needs and aircraft (A/C) just breaking. Heavy maintenance involved removing most components from A/C (i.e. transmission, gearboxes, engines, seats, rocket pods, vertical stabilator), inspecting and replacing components as needed, reassembly, and operational checks.
In 2016, he completed the Army Transition Course graduating as a 15T, Blackhawk Repairer to work on UH-60A/L Blackhawk helicopters. The following year, Justin, along with two small crews and two helicopters deployed to Puerto Rico under FEMA to support Hurricane Maria recovery efforts, delivering food (MRE’s) and water to remote areas of the island. He served as crew chief on the UH-60 performing scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, was responsible for A/C logbooks maintenance and passengers, and various other duties during flight to accomplish the mission.
His career expanded further with a deployment to Iraq (2020–2021) as a medevac crew chief, providing life-saving transportation and maintenance support while cross-training medical evacuation procedures with international teams. In 2022, he returned to a heavy maintenance company where he discovered his passion for teaching while mentoring new soldiers as a section and platoon sergeant. Seeing growth in his soldiers as mechanics and as people solidified his commitment to education and training.
Justin’s qualifications include FAA certification, earned through extensive field experience, and completion of Army leadership programs, including the Warrior Leadership Course, Advanced Leadership Course, and Senior Leadership Course. Upon completion of his military service, Justin is dedicated to sharing his knowledge and experience with the next generation of aviation professionals.
