Biography

Dr. Tonkin is an Assistant Professor in the School of Business with a dual appointment in Human Resource Management and Management Information Systems. Prior to this position, he served as the Assistant Director for Information Technology at Saint Francis University’s Center of Excellence for Remote and Medically Under-Served Areas (CERMUSA). Under his direction, CERMUSA developed and deployed a number of innovations featuring novel combinations of commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) technologies, most notably the patented RF to IP Bridge System, the Mobile Access Point (MAP), and Mobile Communications Platform (MCP). Dr. Tonkin’s dissertation, “The Effects of Practical Considerations of Grief in the Workplace,” was published in 2021; this research explored the ways in which workplace policies help or hinder bereaved individuals in achieving work-life balance. Dr. Tonkin is also an active volunteer and fundraiser for children’s grief programs and charities. When not in the classroom, he is a working musician (bass and percussion) and enjoys hiking, reading, creative writing, and traveling. Dr. Tonkin has a well-known passion for all things Batman, resulting in a large collection of comics, graphic novels, movies, and collectibles. If given the opportunity, he will discuss Batman with anyone, at any time, for as long as possible. He won’t say whether or not he is Batman, but does point out that he and the Dark Knight have never been seen in the same place at the same time.
