Biography
Dr. Theresa M. Horner is a proud Saint Francis University alumna and Founding Chair of the Department of Public Health Program & Graduate Health Sciences, School of Health Sciences & Education, Saint Francis University. Previously, Dr. Horner’s most recent appointment was with the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown as Executive Director, Office of Health & Counseling Services. During her 15-year tenure she utilized her skills as a licensed mental health clinician and private practitioner to enhance and develop student services. She further garnered a depth of experience across the field of Public Health ranging from prevention to pandemic preparedness and has presented at the international level on the topic of Campus Safety & Crisis Prevention. She authored and implemented the Healthy Campus Initiative (2009), and served the University as an active member of many committees, most especially the Critical Incident Response Team. She was the recipient of the Chancellor’s Affirmative Action Award (2008) for her work in the area of Disability Services and was recognized by the Office of the Governor, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, for Campus Alcohol & Drug Prevention Efforts (2012).
Dr. Horner is passionate about service to her students, the university and the community. She is an active Disaster Mental Health Responder with the American Red Cross and has many community endeavors. She also serves the Saint Francis University community through her work on various university committees, and advisory boards. Her research interests in mental and public health reflect a population-based approach to intervention and prevention including, community wellness, emergency preparedness, and eradication of the drug epidemic.
