Saint Francis University: A Unique Gem in Engineering Education

Mitchell Jubas | 01/30/2025

Saint Francis University has been recognized as a standout institution—this time for its ABET-accredited engineering program. In a recent post on LifeChangingColleges by V. Peter Pitts, a retired enrollment officer and advocate for small colleges, highlighted SFU place among a select group of institutions offering high-quality engineering education. SFU was included among 122 small colleges with  ABET-accredited engineering programs.

What makes this recognition even more special? SFU is not just another small school—it stands out as a master’s comprehensive university, not a private liberal arts college. While 110 of the 122 institutions on Pitt’s list are private liberal arts colleges, SFU is among the few small master’s comprehensive universities that offer an ABET-accredited engineering program.

This distinction is important because SFU provides students with the personalized attention of a small school while also offering the resources, graduate programs, and opportunities of a comprehensive university. That balance of close-knit community and advanced academic offerings is what makes SFU a truly unique place for aspiring engineers.

As SFU continues to be recognized for its academic excellence and unique opportunities, we take pride in offering an engineering education that combines hands-on learning, strong faculty support, and the advantages of a broader university experience.

 Why This Matters

  • It is one of only a few small master’s comprehensive universities with ABET-accredited engineering.
  • Offers graduate programs and research opportunities beyond the typical small college experience.
  • Provides a close-knit, student-focused learning environment.

Saint Francis University is proud to be part of this exclusive group of institutions and remains committed to preparing future engineers for success in a dynamic, evolving world.
