Scuba Club Cleans Up Glendale Lake

The Saint Francis SCUBA Club volunteered on SFU’s annual R.E.D. (Reaching Every Door) Day to clean up the lake at Prince Gallitzin State Park. Nine students under the direction of  Master SCUBA Diver Trainers, Nick Weakland and Dr. Patricia Fitzgerald donned wet and dry suits to dive into a portion of Glendale Lake practicing their search and rescue skills to remove any trash or unnatural debris polluting the beautiful park.

R.E.D. Day is an annual day of service in which our students go into local communities to show appreciation for their support by giving of their time and talents. Students sign up as individuals or groups to volunteer in the local community. “One of the many benefits of being a student of Saint Francis University is the opportunity to experience learning in unique and exciting ways.” says Nick Weakland. Saint Francis University is one of the few schools to offer a minor in either Biological Diving or Exercise Physiology Diving.

Next week, students in the Rescue Diver class will be back at Prince Gallitzin State Park to conduct many rescue, response, search, and recovery scenarios to fulfill the open water requirements of that course.
