SFU Nursing In the News: Van Zandt offering RN, NP residency programs
SFU's FNP program faculty and James E. Van Zandt VA Medical Center collaborate to help new nurses thrive on the job through an innovative residency program
Saint Francis University's Family Nurse Practitioner program is proud to collaborate with the James E. Van Zandt VA Medical Center to help new nurses thrive in their careers through innovative residency programs designed to give recently graduated RNs and NPs the support, mentorship, and hands-on experience they need to build confidence and stay in the profession.
With 100% protected learning time, structured guidance, and a focus on professional growth, these programs address the challenges that often lead to burnout and early career exits — setting new nurses up for lasting success in healthcare. The training for new nurse practitioners is heavy on primary care, but also includes cardiology, renal care, dermatology, orthopedics, mental health care, pain clinic work, urgent care and nursing home care, coupled with one day a week in didactic mode — which includes military-related education — along with a final project for which students design improvements to a hospital program or policy, under guidance from Saint Francis University's Nursing Department.
