Chris Villarrial Signs Extension to Lead Saint Francis Football into New Era

“Coach Villarrial’s experience and vision make him the perfect leader for this pivotal moment,” said Director of Athletics Jim Brazill.
Big news out of Loretto—Chris Villarrial, the coach with the most wins in Saint Francis football history, has signed a contract extension to guide the Red Flash through their transition from NCAA Division I to Division III.
Villarrial’s legacy is already one for the books: two NEC championships (2016, 2022), a program-record 68 wins, and a historic victory over Kent State in 2023—the Red Flash’s first-ever win over an FBS opponent. Now, he’s staying on to help shape the next chapter of Saint Francis football.
In his tenure, Villarrial has mentored dozens of standout athletes, including 27 All-Americans, 104 All-NEC selections, and players who’ve reached both the NFL and CFL. He’s a three-time NEC Coach of the Year and a 2022 Eddie Robinson Award finalist.
Beyond the accolades, Villarrial remains focused on building well-rounded student-athletes. “My commitment is to excellence on the field and in the classroom,” he said. “I’m proud of what we’ve built and excited for what’s ahead.”
From NFL veteran to college coaching legend, Villarrial’s leadership continues to push the Red Flash forward—wherever the next chapter takes them.
