LORETTO, Pa. – Saint Francis University is pleased to announce the appointment of Jim Brazill, as the new Director of Athletics, effective immediately. Brazill succeeds James Downer, who departed the role on February 27, 2025, to pursue other opportunities.

Brazill, a seasoned athletic administrator, has been an integral part of the Red Flash Athletics team for nearly two decades, most recently serving as Senior Associate Director of Athletics since 2014. His extensive leadership experience and commitment to student-athlete success make him the ideal choice to lead the university’s athletic department into its next chapter.

“Jim brings a wealth of experience in athletics administration, a strong commitment to student-athlete success, and a passion for the Red Flash to this new role,” said Fr. Malachi Van Tassell, T.O.R, President of Saint Francis University. “His leadership will ensure continuity and growth as we continue to advance our athletics program and support our student-athletes both on and off the field.”

During his tenure at Saint Francis, Brazill has played a key role in sport administration, fundraising, marketing, and game-day operations. He has overseen multiple sports programs, developed the Saint Francis University Marching Band, and spearheaded key fundraising initiatives, including the Stokes Club and Red Flash Futures programs. His leadership has also extended to athletic branding, sponsorship development, and student engagement, significantly enhancing the Red Flash experience for student-athletes and fans alike.

“I am honored to step into the role of Director of Athletics at Saint Francis University,” said Brazill. “Saint Francis has been my home for many years, and I am deeply committed to continuing our tradition of excellence in academics, athletics, and community engagement. I look forward to working with our incredible coaches, staff, and student-athletes to build on our successes and achieve even greater heights.”

Brazill holds a Master’s in Human Resource Management from Saint Francis University and a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education/Sport Management from Slippery Rock University. Before joining SFU, he held various leadership roles with the Johnstown Chiefs Professional Hockey organization.

Jim and his wife Jill have two sons, Connor and Dominic.

With Brazill at the helm, Saint Francis University Athletics is poised for continued growth and success. The university community looks forward to his leadership in advancing the Red Flash legacy.
